I’m committed to seeing that all Democrats Abroad leaders have the information they need to be effective. This encompasses timely access to concise and useful meeting minutes and providing regular training on the programs and processes that are the backbone of our worldwide organization.
Democrats Abroad continues to grow in membership and ambition – a good thing! – but it means the demands on the International Secretary’s time continue to increase. I faced a similar situation as DAUK Chair, when I managed a spike in membership growth with a corresponding large volunteer uptake. I found that the secret of success was to build teams around key task areas. Internal communications and meeting management are just two areas where a dedicated team could be of significant assistance to the International Secretary.
The International Secretary must be on the frontline with our tech tools, working closely with the IT team to identify and remove roadblocks for leaders. Our tech tools will continue to change, and helping leaders understand this is paramount. As DAUK Secretary, I trained leaders and members on Nationbuilder and CallHub, and evaluated our use of other technologies.
