I joined Democrats Abroad in 2004 and four years later, volunteered with Obama’s exhilarating presidential campaign. In 2013, I was the lead in-country organizer for the DPCA Global Convention in London and was elected secretary of Democrats Abroad UK that same year.
I served as DAUK Secretary for three years, and was then appointed Vice Chair. In 2017 I was elected as Chair, serving two terms, and leading this large country committee to greater voter turnout in the 2020 election.
Since then, I have been elected as a DPCA representative and have been active in many DAUK projects, including the 2020 Call the World phonebanking campaign. I continue to appear regularly on radio, television and podcasts on behalf of DAUK.
At the DA global level, I lead the Defending Democracy Initiative, working with a team of volunteers to track and respond to state-level legislation that threatens our overseas voting rights.
I am co-chair of the California State Team, which in 2024 presented webinars with six swing district candidates, as well as a founder-member of the ECCC.
These experiences have given me deep insight into both the challenges of running a country committee and the opportunities afforded by our global reach.
My interest in politics began much earlier, with a degree in political science from Santa Clara University in California. I wrote for the college newspaper – a highlight was an interview with Reagan appointee Everett Alvarez, Jr. – and had a memorable internship at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
My professional career has been as a writer and editor of both text and photos. Editorial projects have ranged from textbooks for Addison Wesley to articles for BBC Music Magazine, program books for the Aldeburgh Festival and pre-concert talks for the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. You’ll find my recent articles in Strings magazine and opera reviews on The Stage website.
My professional career makes me inquisitive, critical, and determined, qualities I combine with the leadership and organizational skills I honed at Democrats Abroad.
